Dominika Weiss Hošková

Dominika Weiss Hošková is one of the most prominent Czech cellists of her generation. She began studying the cello at the age of four with her father, renowned Czech cellist Jiří Hošek, and later continued her studies with Mirko Škampa at the Jan Neruda Grammar School with a Music Specialization. At the Prague Conservatory, she studied with Václav Jírovec and Vladan Kočí, while also taking private lessons with Professor Miloš Sádlo.

 

She completed both her Master’s and doctoral studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) in the studio of her father, Jiří Hošek. She furthered her artistic

​education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris with Professor Jean-Marie Gamard and at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with Professor Zvi Plesser, where she also studied chamber music with Avi Abramovich. 

 

She has participated in master classes with leading international musicians, including Raphael Wallfisch, Csaba Onczay, Dudu Sella, Hillel Zori, Menahem Pressler, Miriam Fried, the Emerson String Quartet, the Jerusalem Quartet, and others.

 

Throughout her career, Dominika has received numerous major awards at national and international competitions. Among her most significant achievements are First Prize and Absolute Winner at the Karel Ditters Competition, awards at the Bohuslav Martinů Competition, the Yamaha Competition, and The Rose Choron Chamber Music Competition, as well as becoming a finalist in the Aviv Competition in Tel Aviv. In 2010, she was awarded the Silver Medal of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic for promoting the good name and traditions of the Czech Republic in Israel.

 

In addition to the classical cello repertoire, Dominika specializes in the works of David Popper and in music by Jewish composers. Her artistic work is deeply connected with Jewish musical heritage and with the cultural dialogue between the Czech Republic and Israel.

 

She has performed at major festivals and concert series in the Czech Republic, Israel, Austria, and elsewhere, including the Prague Spring International Music Festival, the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt, the Bohuslav Martinů Festival, Musical Bridges – Project Terezín, Štetl Fest, Ha-Makom, and Šamajim.

 

She has appeared as a soloist with leading Czech and international orchestras, including the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, the Prague Chamber Philharmonia, the Pilsen Philharmonic, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic, the North Czech Philharmonic Teplice, and others. She has collaborated with distinguished conductors including Serge Baudo, István Dénes, and Tomáš Brauner.

 

As a chamber musician, she founded the Ester Piano Trio and later the Sharon Piano Trio in Israel. Since 2023, she has collaborated with violinist Silvia Hessová, with whom she founded the Gideon Klein Duo.

 

A distinctive part of her artistic work is her collaboration with the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute, Raymond Goldstein, and leading cantors, including Naftali Herstik, Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, Colin Shochet, Simon Cohen, and Yitzchak Zelman.

 

Dominika regularly records for Czech Radio, Czech Television, and Radio Kol HaMusika. Her discography includes recordings devoted to Joseph Haydn and Anton Kraft, C. P. E. Bach, and David Popper, including the CD David Popper – Virtuoso Works for Cello and Orchestra
